10/9/2003 Students Studying the Beef Industry Offered Scholarships

Each of 20 students will be awarded $1,250 in the program, with one student selected to also receive the top prize of an expense paid trip to the 2004 Cattle Industry Annual Convention and Trade Show in Phoenix, Ariz., Jan. 28-31, 2004.

Students applying for the scholarship may pursue careers in agricultural education, communications, production, research or any another area related to the beef industry. To be eligible, a student must:

1. be enrolled as an undergraduate student in a four-year institution for the entire 2004/2005 academic year. Proof of enrollment as a full-time student will be required to receive the scholarship money.

2. Write a brief letter expressing/indicating future career goals related to the beef industry.

3. Write an essay of 750 words or less describing an issue confronting the beef industry and offer a solution.

4. Obtain two letters of reference from current or former professors or industry professionals.

5. Prepare a cover sheet to include: Name, complete current mailing address and telephone number, school name, year in school, permanent mailing address and telephone number.

Introduced in 1989 to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Live Cattle Futures, the CME Beef Industry Scholarship Program continues to recognize outstanding youth in the beef community. The National Cattlemen’s Foundation (NCF) will administer the program, read the essays, and select the winners. Essays will be judged on the basis of clarity of expression, persuasiveness, originality, accuracy, relevance of topic, and the solutions offered. Judges decisions are final. All applicants will be notified of results in January 2004. CME and the NCF reserve the right to publish any or parts of all essays submitted.
