Position Title: Graduate Research Assistantship
Part/Full:Full Time
Date Available:1/11/2010

Funding for a graduate student to pursue a doctoral degree at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, AR is available beginning January 2010 provided by an NSF grant to study neuroendocrine mechanisms of stress responses in chickens. A background in neuroscience, molecular biology and endocrinology is desirable. Experience with in situ hybridization, immunohistochemistry and quantitative RT-PCR techniques would be beneficial. Good communication skills are important. Research in the lab is focused on the neuroendocrine control of stress and reproduction in poultry. We are concentrating on hormones and receptors that impact the hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal axis and associated systems, involving stress and reproduction. We use a combination of behavioral, physiological, anatomical and molecular approaches to investigate plasticity of neuronal systems following stress. A successful candidate will join a graduate program in Molecular and Cell Biology or Poultry Science. Funding includes a graduate research assistantship with benefits and provides full coverage of tuition fees. Please send a (1) statement of research interests, (2) curriculum vitae, (3) transcripts of courses taken toward undergraduate and/or master’s degree, (4) GRE scores and (5) names and contact information for three references to Drs.
