Associate Professor & Superintendent. This position is located at the Clayton Livestock Research Center in Clayton, New Mexico. Tenure track, 12 month full time. Appointment is 75% research, 25% extension. Ph.D. (in hand by hire date) in Animal Science or closely related field. Emphasis in ruminant nutrition preferred. Knowledge of feed milling, diet formulation and management practices for growing/finishing beef cattle. Provide leadership for research in beef cattle health, nutrition, and management, and collaborate with faculty in the Animal & Range Sciences department, other departments and the Agriculture Science Centers. Research areas will include: effects of nutrition and management on morbidity and mortality in newly weaned cattle and/or lightweight cattle subjected to marketing and transportation stress; effects of nutrition and management on post-weaning growth of beef cattle; integrate objectives with other off campus research centers investigating pre-feedlot management on subsequent growth; cooperative research with the local livestock community and other agencies addressing problems such as locoweed toxicity and others.
