Under supervision of the Animal Science Research Faculty the Analyst will perform routine professional work to support scientific research in Animal Science. Primary duties include general animal management of the sheep research flock including animal health, maintaining records, replacement animal selection, animal feeding, and managing supplies for animal care. The Research Analyst will also oversee aspects of research facility maintenance such as fence, pen and water line maintenance. The Research Analyst supervises field staff, writes periodic reports and performs other related duties as assigned. The Research Analyst assists in conducting field experiments and collecting data in studies of sheep reproductive physiology, animal behavior, nutrition and growth and meat production. The Research Analyst should have experience with research and production of small ruminants including breeding, nutrition, genetics and animal health. Experience in routine animal management and care is desirable. The Research Analyst should have experience using microcomputers for data entry and record keeping. The Analyst should be highly motivated and able to work in a culturally diverse department. Candidate should have the ability to collect data, either numerical information (weights) or biological samples (blood and fecal samples, body temperature), recognize animal health problems, work as part of a team, and communicate with the public and scientific community. The job will entail both indoor and outdoor work in a hot climate. Working in the beautiful US Virgin Islands is a chance to experience life in a tropical paradise. A Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science or related area with experience in Reproductive Physiology and/or Livestock Production is required.
