THANKS! ... to the scientists who participated in the FASS Forward letter-writing campaign on the eve of the July 15, 2003 Senate Ag Appropriations Subcommittee's markup session.

During that session, funding for the National Research Initiative Competitive Grants program (NRI) in Fiscal Year 2004 was set at $180 million. This is $31 million more than the House mark of $149 million and could result in a $14 million increase over FY 2003 if it continues to hold. The subcommittee's overall spending bill was $136 million less than the President requested.

Look for future invitations to visit FASS Forward as we continue our efforts to protect spending for agricultural research!
